We've read a lot of books with the kiddo over the last few years, but Lobel's Frog and Toad short stories from the 70s are my (and his) favorites right now.

There are 20 short stories across 4 books. I originally wanted to rank them from my favorite to least favorite in this post, but I couldn't agree with any ordering that I wrote. Each story brings something great and different, from the relationships between Frog and Toad, the little things they teach, the humor, the joy, the despair.

So, instead of a ranking, I've written a short tldr of each story for myself, so I can quickly look up which is which:

Frog and Toad Are Friends

• Spring. Toad doesn't want to get out of bed. Frog does.
• The Story. Frog doesn't feel well. Toad tries to think of a story.
• A Lost Button. Toad drags Frog around to find a button. Toad finds it.
• A Swim. Toad doesn't want anyone to see his bathing suit. They do.
• The Letter. Frog writes a letter to toad. It takes an accurate amount of time.

Frog and Toad Together

• A List. Toad makes a list of things to do. He doesn't.
• The Garden. Toad helps his garden grow. It's hard.
• Cookies. An exercise in will power.
• Dragons and Giants. An exercise in bravery.
• The Dream. Toad's truly unsettling dream performing feats on stage.

Frog and Toad All Year

• Down the Hill. Winter. Frog and Toad go sledding. Then Toad goes sledding.
• The Corner. Spring. Frog reminisces about finding Spring around the corner.
• Ice Cream. Summer. Toad tries to bring Frog back some ice cream.
• The Surprise. Fall. Frog and Toad rake each other's leaves.
• Christmas Eve. Winter. Frog runs late and Toad worries.

Days With Frog and Toad

• Tomorrow. Toad doesn't want to do chores. So he does chores.
• The Kite. Frog and Toad fly a kite.
• Shivers. Frog tells a scary story. Did that really happen?
• The Hat. Frog gets Toad a birthday gift. Thinks big thoughts.
• Alone. Frog wants to be alone. Toad worries.
